what to know before you start.

Important safety information and common side effects

Oxytocin is generally well-tolerated. Common effects are minimal; rare effects include mild headache, dizziness, or transient facial flushing. Oxytocin does not significantly increase blood clot risk or other major adverse effects at low doses. However, evidence in humans is limited compared to animal research. Oxytocin should not be used during pregnancy (high natural oxytocin). Tell your physician about any mood changes, dizziness, or unusual effects. Stop and seek care for severe headache or signs of allergic reaction.

The research behind
oxytocin.

Oxytocin is the bonding hormone. The sexual-function trials we could check are few and small, and the one we found in women reported no change in its sexual-function score. We found no trial of the sublingual tablets and troches sold here.

What the studies found

  • Contentment with sexual life rose 1.56 points more than placebo in breastfeeding women (Mesbahi et al., BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth 2022)
  • Depression scores were lower with oxytocin than placebo in the same trial (mean difference -1.90, P below 0.001) (Mesbahi et al., BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth 2022)
  • Well tolerated in the trial: one mild uterine contraction in each group and one report of vaginal burning in the placebo group (Mesbahi et al., BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth 2022)

The trial used a vaginal gel in breastfeeding women, not the sublingual tablets or troches sold here. Its doses and population do not match these products, and it does not show that sublingual oxytocin improves sexual function.

What this does not say

  • The one sexual-function measure in this trial, the total FSFI score, showed no difference from placebo.
  • The trial had 64 women and lasted eight weeks; long-term use is not established.
  • Results in breastfeeding women do not carry over directly to other women or to men.

The research
behind it.

Troche formulations provide slower, more sustained absorption than tablets. This may produce more gradual, stable oxytocin levels, potentially improving sustained effects on bonding and mood.

Oxytocin is well-tolerated. Rare side effects include mild headache, dizziness, or facial flushing. Sublingual absorption is variable. Your physician monitors your response and adjusts as needed.
