What is the 5-in-1 hair-growth solution?

(comprehensive topical cocktail)

This solution layers five ingredients: finasteride blocks DHT, minoxidil extends growth phase, tretinoin increases minoxidil activation, caffeine stimulates follicles, and azelaic acid supports scalp health and reduces inflammation. The combination targets multiple pathways, making it a comprehensive choice for aggressive hair loss or plateau response to single agents.

Five

complementary mechanisms in one topical application

The 5-in-1 formulation is prescribed off-label based on the evidence for individual ingredients and clinical synergy reasoning. Scalp irritation is more likely with this potent combination.

How it works,
week by week.

  1. Week 1

Apply to clean, dry scalp using the provided applicator. Many people start with once daily. Your physician monitors for irritation.

  2. Week 2–4

Scalp may shed slightly as the hair cycle resets. Do not be alarmed; this is normal and temporary.

  3. Month 1–3

Hair loss slows noticeably. New hairs begin to grow. Irritation typically subsides.

  4. Month 3–6+

Results become visible. Your physician may increase frequency or add systemic agents if needed. Maintenance is ongoing.

What you may notice,
and when.

  • Minimal systemic effects

topical delivery keeps side effects local

  • Hair regrowth

new hairs visible by month 2-3

  • Scalp irritation possible

usually mild; subsides with continued use

  • Consistent application

    daily use essential for results

Individual results vary. Benefits reflect what Zepym Health members commonly report to their physician at check-ins; they are not the results of a clinical trial.

Safety first:
what to know before you start.

Important safety information and common side effects

Topical finasteride, dutasteride, minoxidil, tretinoin and related ingredients are applied to the scalp and minimally absorbed systemically. Local side effects include irritation, itching, contact dermatitis, and occasional hair shedding at initiation (normal hair-cycle reset). Tretinoin increases sun sensitivity, so daily sunscreen is recommended. Do not apply to broken skin or use if pregnant or breastfeeding. Wash hands after application unless treating hands. Tell your physician about any allergies to propylene glycol or other solution components, or history of sensitive scalp. Stop and seek care for severe redness, blistering, or signs of allergic reaction.

The research behind
the topical hair combinations.

Each product combines drugs applied to the scalp: finasteride, dutasteride, minoxidil, latanoprost or tretinoin. Trials exist for most of these drugs on their own, mostly small. We did not find a trial of any of these exact combinations.

  • Topical finasteride20.2 vs 6.7 hairs

Phase III trial of a topical finasteride spray in 458 men over 24 weeks. Hair count in the 1 cm² target area rose 20.2 hairs with the spray and 6.7 with placebo (P<0.001), numerically similar to oral finasteride at 21.1 hairs. This is a spray, not the foam or solution sold here.

Piraccini et al., J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol 2022;36(2):286-94
  • Minoxidil 5%superior to 2% at 48 weeks

Randomized trial in men with androgenetic alopecia. At 48 weeks the 5% minoxidil solution was significantly superior to 2% solution and to placebo for change in nonvellus hair count, and the response came earlier. It caused more pruritus and local irritation.

Olsen et al., J Am Acad Dermatol 2002
  • Latanoprost16 men

Pilot trial of latanoprost 0.1% on one scalp site against placebo on another site in the same men, for 24 weeks. Hair density rose versus baseline and versus the placebo site (P<0.001 and P=0.0004). Sixteen men with mild loss is too few to size the effect.

Blume-Peytavi et al., J Am Acad Dermatol 2012;66(5):794-800

What the studies found

  • Topical finasteride spray gave 20.2 hairs in a 1 cm² target area vs 6.7 for placebo at 24 weeks, similar to oral finasteride (Piraccini et al., J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol 2022).
  • 5% minoxidil solution gave more regrowth than 2% solution at 48 weeks in men (Olsen et al., J Am Acad Dermatol 2002).
  • Latanoprost 0.1% increased scalp hair density over 24 weeks, in a 16-man pilot (Blume-Peytavi et al., J Am Acad Dermatol 2012).

Trial results are for each drug on its own, at the strength studied, and are averages across people. The combinations here are not the products tested; no trial of the combined foam or solution was found. Compounded versions were not studied.

What this does not say

  • We found no trial of these exact combinations; the evidence is for each ingredient alone.
  • Tretinoin is included as a way to help other drugs penetrate the scalp; we did not find a human trial showing that effect, so we do not claim it.
  • Caffeine in the 5-in-1 solution has weak evidence for hair growth in the sources we read.
  • Scalp irritation and itching are the most common complaints with topical forms.

The research
behind it.

Tretinoin enhances minoxidil activation; caffeine has shown modest follicle-stimulating effects; azelaic acid combats scalp inflammation. Finasteride and minoxidil are separately proven.

Scalp irritation, redness, or peeling can occur, especially in the first weeks. Your physician advises gradual introduction (three times weekly initially, increasing to daily) and monitoring for sensitivity.

Frequently asked questions

Contact support
How do I use Hair Growth Solution (Caffeine / Finasteride / Latanoprost / Minoxidil / Tretinoin)?

Applied to the scalp, once a day, at bedtime. The starting prescription is 1 mL each time. Your physician sets your own dose and it is printed on your label.

Where do I apply it?

Thinning areas of the scalp.

What exactly is in it?

Caffeine 0.1%, Finasteride 0.1%, Latanoprost 0.01%, Minoxidil 5%, Tretinoin 0.01%.

How much arrives in each shipment?

1 bottle at the starting strength, shipped to your door from a licensed US pharmacy.

Is the 5-in-1 solution stronger and faster than simpler combinations?

Potentially, but irritation risk is higher. Your physician may start you on finasteride / minoxidil alone and add the 5-in-1 if response plateaus. Some people tolerate the full cocktail from day one; others need a gentler ramp-up.

Why apply to dry scalp only?

Water and moisture dilute the solution, reducing its effectiveness and increasing irritation. Dry scalp ensures full-strength contact and optimal absorption.

Can I use other topical products on my scalp while using this?

Limit concurrent products. Regular shampoo is fine, but avoid other medicated scalp treatments, oils, or leave-in conditioners without your physician's approval, as they may interact.

How long before I see results?

Hair loss typically slows within 4-8 weeks. New growth becomes visible around month 2-3. Peak results occur at 6-12 months. Patience is essential.
